Youth For Human Rights International Advocates For Peaceful Tolerance And Violent Free Elections In Nigeria
Youth for Human Rights International (YHRI) Delta State Chapter, Nigeria, a Non-Governmental Organization with Headquarters in Los Angeles United States of America, whose Mandate is to Educate Youths on their Rights, on March 9, 2019 took up the task at one of the largest Polling Centers in Asaba, Uzoigwe Primary School to Advocate for Peace in realizing Article 21(1) of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
According to Article 21(1) of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, it states that, “everyone has the right to take part in the government of his country, directly or through freely chosen representatives.
The Team led by the Executive Director, YHRI Delta State, Michael Onyarin Esq., engaged Members of the public and electorates on peace talks and a good number of electorates in their hundreds volunteered to sign an autograph in support of Peaceful Elections which held on 9th of March 2019 across the Nigeria.
Over 200 persons who pledged in support of Peaceful, Tolerance and Violent Free Elections, received some packages from Youth for Human Rights International containing the story of Human Rights as well as the 30 Articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Right.
The Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) of the Nigeria Police Force also pledged to support Peaceful elections in Nigeria.
Some of the Youths engaged, indicated interest towards joining the movement as they expressed satisfaction on the awareness to the public and recognition of their rights.
The elections have however ended in Delta State and the process was assessed as Peaceful throughout the state.
Inline with the peaceful exercise, results for the Gubernatorial and State Lawmakers polls have been collated with emerging Winners announced by the the electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
