You Matter Charity Foundation Reaches Out to Inmates of Ogwashi-Uku Custodial Centre
The You Matter Charity Foundation, a non-profit organisation of Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, the Wife of Delta State Governor, has presented food items and medications to inmates of the Nigerian Correctional Service at the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Ogwashi-Uku.
During the brief ceremony held on Friday, February 23, 2024, at the Freedom Chapel in the Custodial Centre, Dcns Oborevwori encouraged inmates to be strong, knowing that irrespective of their current experiences, God still had them in mind.
Represented by the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Special Duties, Deaconess Ogor Iduh, the governor’s wife charged them to be of good cheer.
“When you eventually leave here, see it as a new beginning and embrace the opportunities that come to you with open arms and heart.
“As you move forward, be committed to serving because that is only when you reap.
“When your freedom comes, embrace it with gratitude and a sense of purpose but until then, keep holding on to God, the very essence of your existence”, she admonished.
The In-Charge of the centre, Deputy Controller of Corrections, DCC John Unamba appreciated the First Lady and her foundation for the tons of food items and medications.
In his words, “We were not expecting these gifts at this time but we must confess that this donation of food items and medications has gone a long way to alleviate the challenges that we face here”.
In her brief sermon, Mrs Nkechi Onianwa admonished the inmates to hold on to God’s word, which she described as a life-giver.
The items donated include bags of rice, garri, other staple food items, toiletries and various medications.
The foundation also offset the fines of some inmates who could not pay their charges.
The inmates, responding to the gesture, danced in excitement and appreciation.
