Washington-Bound United Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Lagos, Several Injured
A United Airlines flight, UA613, carrying 245 passengers and 11 crew members, was forced to make an emergency landing at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, Nigeria, due to a technical issue.
According to VANGUARD report, one passenger pleaded to remain anonymous and described the incident: “We had already been served our meals when the plane lost pressure and dropped. We noticed a sharp descent.
“I hit my head on the ceiling because of the impact. I became unconscious, but one person from the medical team came to attend to me in the middle of the turmoil.”
The passenger further stated that the sharp descent happened three times, causing several people to sustain injuries. “We spent four hours on air. In the midst of the turmoil, the pilot said we were going to land in Ghana, but we eventually landed in Nigeria.”
Confirming the incident in a statement, United Airlines said, “Flight UA613 from Lagos to Washington D.C. returned to Lagos to address a technical issue. After landing safely, the aircraft was met by first responders to address reports of minor injuries to several passengers and crew.”
The airline has not provided further details on the technical issue that caused the emergency landing. However, according to reports from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the incident is under investigation.
The emergency landing has raised concerns about air safety, and passengers have taken to social media to express their gratitude for the safe landing and to share their experiences.
