Victor Boniface to Stay at Bayer Leverkusen, Says Coach Xabi Alonso
Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso has confirmed that Nigerian striker Victor Boniface will remain at the Bundesliga club, amid rumors of a potential move to Saudi Arabia.
Boniface, who has scored eight goals in 15 games this season, was left out of Leverkusen’s Champions League clash with Sparta Prague on Wednesday, fueling speculation about his future.
However, Alonso has quashed those rumors, stating that Boniface will continue to play for Leverkusen.
“He will train again tomorrow. I believe he is staying with us,” Alonso told reporters after Leverkusen’s 2-0 win over Sparta Prague.
“So I have to say that I am satisfied, I am happy. He is comfortable here, so I don’t believe that this is a big stress for him.”
Boniface’s decision to stay at Leverkusen could have implications for Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran, who is also reportedly a target for Saudi club Al-Nassr.
Al-Nassr is looking to bolster its frontline, which already features Cristiano Ronaldo and Sadio Mane.
