US Launches $5M ‘Gold Card’ Visa
US President Donald Trump has unveiled the first “gold card”, a residency permit priced at $5 million, aboard Air Force One on Thursday.
The card, which bears Trump’s face and the inscription “The Trump Card,” is expected to be available “in less than two weeks” the Republican president told reporters.
“I’m the first buyer,” Trump said, adding “Pretty exciting, huh?” The Gold Card is a high-priced alternative to the traditional green card, aimed at attracting wealthy investors who can create jobs and contribute to the US economy.
According to Trump, the sales of the Gold Card will bring in job creators and could help reduce the US national deficit. The program aims to sell around a million cards, with potential buyers including Russian oligarchs.
The Gold Card serves as a pathway to US citizenship, although it does not grant immediate citizenship. Holders of the card will receive benefits similar to green card holders, including the right to live and work in the US.
