US Expels South African Ambassador over Alleged ‘Hate’ for Trump
The United States has expelled South Africa’s ambassador, Ebrahim Radiologist, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio calling him a “race-baiting politician who hates America and hates @POTUS”.
This was stated by Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Friday via a post shared on X, noting that Rasool, was “no longer welcome” in the United States.
This move is the latest development in rising tensions between Washington and Pretoria.
Rasool is accused of making remarks that white supremacism is motivating Trump’s “disrespect” for the “current hegemonic order” of the world.
He also noted that Trump’s Make America Great Again movement “was a white supremacist response to growing demographic diversity in the United States”.
The South African presidency has responded, calling the expulsion “regrettable” and urging “all relevant and impacted stakeholders to maintain the established diplomatic decorum in their engagement with the matter”.
This development comes after Trump froze US aid to South Africa in February, citing a law that he alleges allows land to be seized from white farmers.
Trump has also offered expedited citizenship to white Afrikaners “escaping government-sponsored race-based discrimination”.
The issue of land ownership is contentious in South Africa, with most farmland still owned by white people three decades after the end of apartheid.
The South African government has defended its land reform policies, saying they aim to address historical in equalities.
