Urhobo Youths Demand Justice for Paul Obukowho’s Death in Police Custody

PoliceThe Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) Youth Wing, Worldwide, led by Ethnic President Comrade Umukoro Efemena, has strongly condemned the tragic and unjust circumstances surrounding the death of Master Paul Obukowho.

The group alleges that Paul suffered unlawful detention, dehumanization, and fatal abuse at the hands of officers from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Delta State Police Command.

Recall that on March 26, 2025, Paul and his brothers were unjustly detained in Asaba, Delta State.

In a statement released over the weekend in Asaba, Delta State, UPU expressed outrage and vowed to pursue justice through all legal channels. The statement read in parts: “We strongly condemn the unlawful arrest, brutalization, and tragic death of Master Paul Obukowho, at the hands of officers of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Delta State Police Command.

“What began as an arbitrary arrest escalated into severe physical abuse, extortion, and medical negligence, ultimately leading to Paul’s untimely demise at FMC Asaba on March 29, 2025. This incident underscores the worsening cases of police brutality and human rights violations in Nigeria.”

The statement added: “The Urhobo youths Worldwide vehemently condemn this act of oppression and demand a full-scale investigation into the unlawful detention and death of Paul Obukowho. The officers responsible must be immediately suspended and prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Additionally, the Nigerian Police Force must take full responsibility for this tragic incident and set up a special team to visit the deceased’s family and offer the necessary support. Anything short of this would be seen as an endorsement of injustice and impunity.
