Ughelli: APC Loses Over 200 Members To PDP in Evwreni
Over 200 members of the All Progressive Congress, APC in Evwreni Ward 8 in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State at the weekend officially announced their decamping from the party to People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
The decampees who were received by the Member Representing Ughelli North Constituency One in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon Samuel Mariere and other leaders of PDP in the area, said their sojourn to APC could be best described as “movement of hopelessness lost in the wilderness”.
The Spokesperson of the decampees, Chief Imoh Ighomena explained that most of them were foundation members of the PDP but left the party in search of greater political relevance but were unfortunate to have met a worst situation in APC.
Chief Ighomena Imoh stated that having realized their mistakes, they decided to make a u-turn back to PDP, stressing that the visionary leadership of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and the quality representation of Hon Samuel Mariere in the Delta State House of Assembly were enough reason to return to PDP.
He maintained that APC maladministration at the federal level has brought untold hardship to the land, stressing that major players in the party deceived gullible Nigerians into believing that they were change agents.
Chief Ighomena said never again will the people fall into such quagmire, assuring that more APC members in the area would return to the PDP as the 2019 general elections draw near.
Receiving the decampees, Hon Samuel Mariere commended them for their wise decision and assured all that they will be fully integrated into the PDP family as the Umbrella was big enough to accommodate all.
Hon Mariere stated that the Okowa’s led administration has done well in terms of raising quality of lives and development of infrastructures in the state and had remained committed to attracting the dividends of democracy to all parts of the state.
The lawmaker who is a leading aspirant to Udu, Ughelli North and South Federal Constituency under the platform of PDP, said much is expected from the people in their desire for good governance and charged them to ensure they get their PVCs as that will qualify them to vote for all PDP candidates in the forthcoming elections.
The Leader of Ughelli North Legislative Arm, Hon Felix Tobori, while welcoming the decampees, said they will be presented to the leadership of the PDP in the state and congratulated them for joining the winning train.
Earlier at a thanksgiving service to appreciate God for the victory of PDP in Evwreni during the last local government election in the state, Hon Samuel Mariere and the member representing the ward in the legislative arm of Ughelli North Local Government Council, Hon Ezekiel Omareyerue Odeimor said they hold all glory to God for the victory despite the obvious challenges.
They said Evwreni being an opposition stronghold, it took the irrevocable commitment of the people who so much believe in PDP and their unquenching appetite for good governance to deliver the votes for the party in the face of intimidation.
The Lawmakers promised sustained good representations of the people.
