Trump Postpones Potential Tiktok Ban
President Donald Trump has given TikTok a 75-day extension to find a US buyer, delaying the potential ban on the Chinese-owned app just days before the April 5 deadline.
In a statement released on Friday via his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump announced the executive order, citing significant progress in negotiations. “My Administration has been working very hard on a Deal to SAVE TIKTOK, and we have made tremendous progress,” he wrote.
“The deal requires more work to ensure all necessary approvals are signed, which is why I am signing an Executive Order to keep TikTok up and running for an additional 75 days.”
The extension allows TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, more time to negotiate a sale of its US business, amid bipartisan legislation mandating separation from Chinese ownership.
“We do not want TikTok to ‘go dark,'” Trump emphasized, aiming for a resolution that keeps the popular app operational.
The decision comes after Trump’s administration faced pressure to address national security concerns surrounding TikTok’s data handling practices.
With the new deadline set, TikTok and ByteDance will continue negotiations, seeking a solution that balances business interests with regulatory requirements.
The fate of TikTok remains uncertain, but for now, the app will remain available in the US, pending further developments.
