The Ojougboh Missive: How Okowa Missed it Again

The trending letter by Dr. Cairo Ojougboh revealing the corruption in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led administration in Delta State has exposed the porosity of the team that surrounds the governor.

What Ojougboh said in his letter is not surprising as Deltans are aware of the putrid stench of corruption, nepotism and cronyism that has become the hallmark of the Okowa administration.

What is surprising however is that the team of political hallelujah boys and retinue of media aides that ought to articulate the government response to this scathing revelation has gone dumb and misfired.

The House of Assembly has articulated no response.

In the only official response so far, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ehiedu Aniagwu instead of addressing the message, chose to attack the messenger. He only succeeded in dancing around the issue, and leaving the question unanswered.

The question which begs for answer from the Ojougboh missive is a simple one. Ask the State Assembly to produce a copy of the 2017 state budget.

In attacking the person of Dr. Ojougboh, the maverick Chief Press Secretary failed to notice some obvious factual errors in the missive. An example of this is the reference to Sheriff Oborevwori instead of Monday Igbuya as the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly when the 2017 budget was passed.

Indeed, the drum has been beaten and the thief’s heart has skipped a beat. This is is the reason for the discomfited and uncoordinated response of the Okowa media machine. This is also what happens when one chases the shadows instead of going for the substance.
