Tension as PDP fires Erijo as Delta Assembly Majority Leader
The Delta Assembly impeachment saga which led to the change in leadership has taken another tone as the State leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has directed the House to reinstate the ousted majority Leader, Hon. Tim Owhefere to his former position.
The Party’s position was made known to the House in a letter forwarded to it and read at Tuesday’s Plenary by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori stating that its decision on the Majority Leader of the House still breathes the choice of Hon. Tim Owhefere.
“Be informed that PDP Delta State Chapter, wishes to reaffirm that Hon. Barr. Tim Kome Owhefere, the honourable member representing Isoko North Constituency as the Majority Leader representing the Party in the Delta State House of Assembly,” the letter read.
The reason for the change on the choice of Majority leader by the party was not made known, meanwhile sources close to the leadership of the party said “Owhefere is the choice of the governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa.”
According to inside sources, the Party’s decision which did not go down with some of the house members also startled the newly appointed Majority Leader, Hon. Johnson Erijo.
“As a party’s affair, the members will have to abide by the directive although it came as a surprise but Party is supreme and they can’t fight it.”
The one day Majority Leader, Hon. Johnson Erijo who was furious while storming out of the Assembly Complex declined comments from newsmen who rushed to get his reaction.
Earlier at the plenary session, the Speaker Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori lifted the suspension slammed on the Former Speaker, Rt. Hon. Monday Igbuya and the Majority Leader Hon. Tim Owhefere in order for them to resume legislative duties.
The speaker also welcomed back members to legislative business appreciating them for the confidence reposed in him as their new leader. He urged members not to lose sight and to put in their best to serve their constituents.
