Speed Darlington Granted Bail – Lawyer
Popular Nigerian singer, Darlington Achakpo, also known as Speed Darlington, has been granted bail after being arraigned in court.
This development was confirmed by his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, who disclosed that the bail application had been moved and granted via a post on X.
Adeyanju wrote, “Police finally arraigns Speed Darlington in court. Bail application moved and granted. We are trying to perfect same.”
Speed Darlington’s arrest stemmed from allegations of defamation and cyberstalking against fellow Nigerian singer, Burna Boy. He was initially arrested in October 2024 in Lagos and later transferred to Abuja, where he was detained by the IGP’s Intelligence Response Team.
After being released from police custody, Speed Darlington was re-arrested in November while performing at a show in Owerri, Imo State.
Before the bail grant, Speed Darlington’s counsel, Rosemary E. Hamza, had emphasized that a court order issued by Justice M.S. Liman on December 23, 2024, directed the police to charge Speed Darlington within 48 hours or release him unconditionally.
