Senate Unanimously Passes Vote of Confidence in Akpabio Amid Allegations
The Nigerian Senate has passed a unanimous vote of confidence in its President, Senator Godswill Akpabio.
This decision comes on the heels of allegations made by suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, chairman of the Senate Committee on Diaspora and NGOs, who claimed she was suspended for raising allegations of sexual harassment against Akpabio.
According to VANGUARD, the vote of confidence was passed during Thursday’s plenary, with Senate Leader Michael Opeyemi Bamidele and Deputy Minority Leader Olalere Oyewumi leading the charge.
In response to the allegations, the Senate has urged Nigerians not to be distracted, emphasizing that the matter is already before the court.
Citing Order 40 of its standing rules, the Senate stated it could not interfere in an issue under judicial consideration.
