SARS Remains Dissolved – Police Force Debunks Reformation Rumors
The Nigeria Police Force has issued a statement dismissing rumors about the return of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) under a reformed set of rules.
According to VANGUARD, the Force made this known in a release titled “Disclaimer: SARS Remains Dissolved,” Force Public Relations Officer ACP Muyiwa Adejobi emphasized that SARS remains permanently dissolved.
“The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) is not back in operation. The recent information regarding SARS reformation and rules of engagement should be treated with caution,” ACP Adejobi clarified.
He urged Nigerians to verify information from credible sources, advising citizens to follow the official handles of the Nigeria Police Force on social media: @PoliceNG on X, @ngpolice on Facebook, and @nigeriapoliceforce on Instagram.
ACP Adejobi stressed the importance of public awareness, saying, “Your safety and awareness are paramount; stay informed and vigilant.”
SARS was initially disbanded on October 11, 2020, following widespread protests against the unit’s human rights abuses. The police force has maintained that the unit remains dissolved, and there are no plans to revive it.
