Rivers State: Ibas Confirms Release of Withheld LG allocations
The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice-Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, has announced the release of withheld local government allocations.
Ibas made this known during a meeting with Heads of Local Government Administrators in Port Harcourt.
He expressed concern over the delay in salary payments and acknowledged the struggles of affected workers. “I feel the pain of the workers,” he said, assuring them that salaries would be paid without delay.
Ibas warned that financial accountability would be strictly enforced and directed local government areas to submit their wage bills. He vowed to scrutinize the handling of public funds and take action against any mismanagement.
The President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, Clifford Paul, commended the Federal Government for appointing Ibas as the sole administrator. Paul pledged to support peace and stability, urging Ibas to prioritize workers’ welfare.
Local government workers are currently owed two months’ salaries, but Paul expressed hope that the released allocations would address this issue.
