President Tinubu Restructures Federal Ministries, Reassigns Portfolios, Sacks Five Ministers
President Bola Tinubu has approved the immediate implementation of eight significant actions to enhance the administration’s efficiency and fulfil his promises to Nigerians.
This development was the outcome of the Federal Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at the presidential villa, Abuja.
These actions include the renaming of the Ministry of Nigeria Delta Development to the Ministry of Regional Development, which will oversee all Regional Development Commissions, including the Niger Delta Development Commission, the South East Development Commission, the North East Development Commission, and the North West Development Commission.
The Ministry of Sports Development was also scraped, and its functions will be transferred to the National Sports Commission to foster a vibrant sports economy. The Federal Ministry of Tourism and the Federal Ministry of Arts and Culture will be merged to form the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy.
Furthermore, ten ministers have been reassigned to new portfolios, while five ministers have been discharged from their duties. Seven new ministers have been nominated for Senate confirmation. Shehu Dikko has been appointed as Chairman of the National Sports Commission, and Sunday Akin Dare has been appointed as Special Adviser to the President on Public Communication and Orientation, working from the Ministry of Information and National Orientation.
Ministers reassigned to new portfolios include Hon. Dr. Yusuf Tanko Sununu as Minister of State, Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction; Dr. Morufu Olatunji Alausa as Minister of Education; Barr. Bello Muhammad Goronyo as Minister of State, Works; Hon. Abubakar Eshiokpekha Momoh as Minister of Regional Development; Uba Maigari Ahmadu as Minister of State, Regional Development; Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite as Minister of State, Finance; Sen. John Owan Enoh as Minister of State, Trade and Investment (Industry); Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim as Minister of Women Affairs; Ayodele Olawande as Minister for Youth Development; and Dr. Salako Iziaq Adekunle Adeboye as Minister of State, Health.
The ministers discharged from their duties are Barr. Uju-Ken Ohanenye, Minister of Women Affairs; Lola Ade-John, Minister of Tourism; Prof. Tahir Mamman SAN OON, Minister of Education; Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo, Minister of State, Housing and Urban Development; and Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim, Minister of Youth Development.
New ministers appointed include Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction; Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi as Minister of Labour & Employment; Bianca Odinaka Odumegu-Ojukwu as Minister of State, Foreign Affairs; Dr. Jumoke Oduwole as Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment (Trade and Investment); Idi Mukhtar Maiha as Minister of Livestock Development; Rt. Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Ata as Minister of State, Housing and Urban Development; and Suwaiba Said Ahmad PhD as Minister of State, Education.
President Tinubu expressed gratitude to the outgoing members of the Federal Executive Council for their service and wished them well in their future endeavours. He urged the newly appointed and reassigned ministers to view their roles as a call to serve the nation, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to setting Nigeria on a path to irreversible growth.
