Police Probe Shimite’s Death, Husband Suspected
The Delta State Police Command has initiated an investigation into the death of Chief Love Shimite, Special Adviser on Trade and Export to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
Shimite passed away in the early hours of Easter Monday.
Initially, reports indicated that she died after a brief illness. However, the circumstances surrounding her death have raised suspicions.
Police spokesperson Bright Edafe confirmed Shimite’s death, stating, “She was confirmed dead at the hospital where she was taken.” Edafe revealed that the investigation would cover all aspects of her death.
A key focus of the investigation is Shimite’s husband, who reported her death to the police and claimed he was receiving threats from her family.
Edafe said, “He was the one who called to report that his wife died early this morning and that he was receiving threats from her family, who feared he might be attacked. It was on this basis that we went to his house and brought him in for his own safety.”
Edafe emphasized that the husband is in protective custody and not under arrest.
The situation took a turn when Shimite’s family lodged a formal complaint with the police, expressing suspicion about the husband’s possible involvement in her death.
In response, the police are conducting a thorough investigation. Edafe stated, “We are currently investigating. In situations like this, only an autopsy can determine whether the death was natural or due to other causes.”
The police will provide updates as the investigation progresses.
