By Favour Chukwunoyenim
It was a carnival-like atmosphere in Ase, a coastal town in Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta State when on Sunday October 15 2017, Chief Chukwuma Benson led over 1000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into the Young Democratic Party (YDP).
At the ceremony witnessed by the State Working Committee of the YDP led by its chairman, Hon. Barr Festus Ofume, Chief Chukwuma Benson stated that with the end of his romance with the PDP, the PDP has become a ghost town in Ase Kingdom and Ndokwa East Local Government Area generally.
He further decried the culture of imposition, nepotism and lack of internal democracy which has reduced the PDP to a directionless group. Chief Chukwuma stated his resolve to work for the growth and success of the YDP in Ndokwa nation.
In his response, the visibly elated YDP state chairman, Barr Festus Ofume while welcoming Chief Chukwuma and his teeming supporters into the YDP noted that the days of deception by the PDP was over. Â He assured the people of Ase Kingdom and Ndokwa nation that the YDP is poised to change the sad narrative of the people.
He stated that the YDP which believes in a break from the dark past as represented by the PDP, believes in providing good leadership that will transform the lives of the people at the grassroots.
Barr Ofume also took a swipe at Governor Okowa and the PDP administration in Delta State for mortgaging the future of Deltans through reckless and unbridled looting and for neglecting the people of Ase Kingdom and Ndokwa nation generally while assuring that a YDP administration in Delta State come 2019 will take away the pains of Deltans. He stated his assurance that with the over 1000 decampees to the YDP, the party would emerge victorious in the forthcoming Local Government Council elections in Ase Ward and Ndokwa East Local Government Area.
Highlights of the ceremony was the Inauguration of the YDP Unit and Ward Executives as well as the presentation of the YDP flag to Chief Benson Chukwuma and his supporters.
