Patani Protest Total Blackout, Wants Okowa to Expedite Action to Restore Power
Patani Indigenes took to the streets on a peaceful protest coordinated by Coalition of Patani youths, (COPY), is an integration of refined, vibrant and law abiding Elites drown from all communities in Patani LGA.
The indigenes broke out their silence on 27th January, 2017 after a prolonged blackout for 3years that had crumbled social economic activities in Patani local government area and had grossly effected the IGR of the council as so many businesses could not strive as a result of the long continued blackout that has forced alot of residents to relocate to electrified areas like Ughelli, Sagbama local governments areas respectively.
The peaceful protest was well coordinated and orderly as observed by some Civil Society Rights Groups (CSO) from across Niger Delta States. When Ireportersonlinenewspaper correspondent spoke with member of the coalition of Patani youths, (COPY), coordinator, Comrade Frukama Anderson asserted that they embarked on a peaceful protest to call on Delta State Governor, Hon Commissioner for Power, Energy Barrister Newworld Safugha, Senator representing Delta south senatorial District, Distinguish Senator James Manager and other relevant interventionist agencies to wade into the total blackout, disconnect from national grid.
Meanwhile, Comrade Frukama also added that nearby communities like Evwreni, Ohore Bomadi was faced with similar challenges but power had been restored to those areas yet Patani had been unattended to after collective efforts by patriotic youths, few leaders residents in Patani L.G,A, one of whom is Dr. Chris Ekiyor who also sued BEDC among other reasons.
He also exploded and appealed that they are willing to partner with BEDC by sending some COPY members by way of supporting the government with their competent professional, technological Engineers, Lawyers and team of Creative intellectuals to contribute their quota all in the bid to restore power to Patani local government area of the state.
