Oshimili South Council Boss Reels Out Achievement, Drums Support For Atiku/Okowa Ticket

The Chairman of Oshimili Local Government Area of Delta State, Hon. Obi Kelvin Ezenyili, said that his administration has witnessed remarkable achievement within the past 23 months with much focus on actualizing the targets in the policy plan conceived at the onset.

Ezenyili stated this during a press conference which held on Friday at the Oshimili South Local Government Council in Asaba.

The council boss added that his administration made it possible to achieved through a Policy Plan tagged Y-PEP AGENDA with its main focus on “Youth and Women Empowerment, Peace and Security, Environment and Sanitation, Primary Health Care, Infrastructural development, etc”.

Obi was flanked by the State Commissioner of Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu and the Vice Chairman of the council, Mrs Ify Ugbogu.

Mrs Ugbogu said that the plan was used as “a veritable tool or compass to navigate the actualization of the socio and economic development of the LGA.”

The council chairman who listed some of the achievements which includes; construction of an ultra Modern Legislative complex With State of the Art Facilities, renovation of the Executive Complex With sophisticated furnishings and Appliances as well installation of Close Circuit Television within the Executive Complex.

Also, a 500KVA standby Generator to provide Uninterrupted Power supply to the secretariat was purchased.

Others are “Harmonious working relationship with the legislative/ management Staff that resulted in early passage of the budget.

“Collaboration with the security personnel by ensuring periodic meetings are held monthly with a all security personnel and agencies in the Local Government to ensure safety in the LG and also providing the basic needs for vigilantes groups.

“Partnering with the private sector in a PPP arrangement to improve the infrastructural development of Council land by revamping/ reconstructing the local government staff quarters and also constructing modern housing apartment on behalf of the council.

“Introduction of automatic System for Local Government Identification process for revenue collection for the council.

“Engagement of over 240 youths as environmental marshals to enforce compliance to extant laws/rules regulating a clean and safe environment and also the establishment of a mobile court to prosecute offenders

“Partnering with Eco Bank PLC to empower female petty Traders AT A 0% interest rate.

“Restoration of power through the repairs of the Transformer and Offsetting 50% of the outstanding electricity bill at the OGBEOGONOGO modern Market.

“Provision of Continuous welfare and Christmas Packages to Staff And the electorates.

“Continuous participation in the sponsorship of annual ALGON sports Festival and Winning 2022/2023 Trophy.

“Youth Empowerment for Revenue Collection on behalf of Council for Oshimili Youth summit.

“Partnering with renowned authors to provide and Distribute Books on the eradication of Cultism to both primary and secondary school students S in the LGA

“Offsetting over 60% of Outstanding Debts Owed Contractors by Previous Administration;

“Providing Palliatives for flood victims

“Transmission of executive bills to the Legislative House on the Amendment of the revenue bye-law etc”

While assuring that the development program of this administration would definitely cut across the entire Local Government Area and all spheres of life, he appealed to Nigerians to support the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) continually so as to benefit more development.

Responding, the State Commissioner of Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, said that the achievement are impressive , noting that the council has demonstrated that the Local Government can indeed make a difference.

“If you recall on the Monday the 8th of March, which was the day you were sworn in, along 24 other local government Chairmen, the Governor was very clear on his mandate. Having secured the mandate of your people.

“As the leader in the State, he asked all of you to proceed and complement the urban renewal drive of his administration. In line with that mandate, you have delivered. You have delivered and indeed given vent to that particular directive of the Governor.

“And so for me I see what is happening today as an opportunity to peer review. So that the other local government areas can look inwards and see to what extent have they been able to keep that directive of the governor” ha said.

Mr Aniagwu who is also the spokesperson of the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Council of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), observed that devolution of power to the Local Government is part of the party’s five point agenda.

He added that the council’s accomplishments shows that local government can bring a lot to the table when empowered.

He however urged the Ezenyili not to lie low in terms of executing more projects in the next year, “So that that at the end of the day, you would have been able to put forward a number of other project that will further add value to the people of the local government”

Also present at the occasion were the chairman of Chairman of the interparty Advisory Committee (IPAC), leader of legislative arm of the council, Secretary of the Local Government and others.
