Oseme Presents 2018 Budget Estimate of N1.8 Billion for Aniocha North LGA
The Chairman, Aniocha North local government area of Delta state, Hon. Chuks Oseme on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 presented a budget estimate of N1.8 billion for the 2018 fiscal year to the council legislative arm for consideration and approval.
Presenting the budget christened, Budget of “Reality” at plenary of the House presided over by the leader of the arm, Hon. Ekene Nwaonye, the chairman, said the budget estimate was made up of N1.8 billion comprising recurrent expenditure of N1.2 billion and capital expenditure of N555 million.
The budget tagged, “Budget of Reality” would be funded from statutory allocation and Internal Generated Revenue (IGR), Value Added Tax (VAT) and other capital receipts.
The council boss who explained that the reason why capital expenditure is far below recurrent was to ensure that all salaries arrears are being paid, stressing that his team are working around the clock to boost the council IGR. Oseme while lamenting that in spite of the capital expenditure that took hug part of the budget, his administration would strive to ensure that capital projects are been undertook which gulped the greater chunk of the money as in line with growth aspirations of the state.
According to him, “we are trying to be proactive, the reforms we are undertaking in revenue collection, the blocking of leakages in all revenue sources”
Oseme said that the increase in the projected revenue was based on the optimism that the current peaceful atmosphere in the area would be sustained.
He said his administration was determined to build a council anchored on inclusive economic growth and sustainable development.
Motion to adopt the budget estimate was moved by Majority leader Hon. Ekene Eziunor and seconded by Hon Chinedu Njoagwuani member representing ward 1 Obior.
In a vote of thanks, the leader of the house, Hon. Ekene Nwaonye commended the chairman for the timely presentation of the budget and discharging his constitutional duty.
He said that the budget would be diligently scrutinised and assured a speedy passage of the budget.
Also, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affair, Hon. Joyce Overah who observed the budget presentation, commended the council for giving peace a chance.
He enjoined them to unite together and move the council forward, saying that only peace can bring development.
