Okowa’s Aide Tasks Petroleum Tanker Drivers On Safety During Xmas, New Year Celebrations


The Executive Assistant to Governor Okowa on Petroleum Monitoring, Mr Oghenekome Okpobor has charged Petroleum Tanker Drivers plying the various routes in Delta State to ensure maximum safety while delivering products during the festive seasons and beyond.

Mr Okpobor who gave this charge at the weekend in Asaba, stressed the need for all stakeholders in the transportation of petroleum products to commit to safety in order to avert preventable disasters, calling on oil marketers to carry out proper checks on delivery trucks before leaving depot for its destinations.

He said: “I am calling on NUPENG, PENGASSAN, IPMAN and other Petroleum Tanker Drivers’ associations to ensure that their vehicles are fit for the purpose it’s meant for which is the safe delivery of Petroleum products across Delta State especially during this busy yuletide.

“My office will be putting in place in the New Year, proper measures to guarantee the safe delivery of Petroleum products by Tanker Drivers from the point of loading to point of discharge in order to prevent the sad occurrences which happened in Onitsha, Lagos, Benue and different parts of the country this year.”

The Executive Assistant further urged Deltans to desist from the act of scooping petroleum products from tankers involved in accidents and  cautioned road transporters and car owners to avoid the temptation of conveying petroleum products and persons together noting that those activities are time bomb for explosions.

While wishing Deltans a Merry Christmas and Prosperous 2020, Mr Oghenekome Okpobor called for greater support for the State Governor, Sen. Dr Ifeanyi Okowa to enable him achieve his vision of a Stronger Delta.
