Thanksgiving: Okowa Predicts New Open Doors For Mariere Despite Outcome Of 2019 Election


Prominent Deltans including the Delta State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, former Governor James Ibori, the State Deputy Governor, Kingsley Otuaro, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori and the State PDP Chairman, Olorogun Kingsley Esiso joined Hon Samuel Mariere on Sunday at the St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Evwreni in Ughelli North Local Government Area to give thanks to God.

Hon Mariere is thanking God for serving the people of Ughelli North 1 Constituency for two consecutive tenures in the Delta State House of Assembly and for His guidance, protection and providence before, during and after the 2019 general elections in which he contested for the Ughelli North/Ughelli South/Udu Federal Constituency seat, though not declared winner.

Speaking at the thanksgiving service, Governor Okowa harped on the need for individuals particularly politicians who seek for elective positions to give thanks to God even when they do emerge victorious.

The governor who recalled the challenges faced by Hon Mariere in politics especially on his first sojourn to the State House of Assembly, said God saw him through and urged him to continue to seek the face of God in all he does.

He commended Hon Mariere for working very closely with his people in Ughelli North, urging him to continue to be the grassroots politician he is known for.

Dr Okowa also urged the former Lawmaker to continue to reach out to his people saying he is opening new doors of opportunities with the thanksgiving to God.

Hon Samuel Mariere and his wife Joy, who were later joined in offering thanksgiving and praise to God by the array of political bigwigs, traditional rulers and other notable Deltans, acknowledged that the 2019 general elections was indeed a very tough one.

He was however quick to appeal to leaders and supporters from the various camps and divides in the elections to put the electoral contest behind and unite in order to forge ahead, adding that unity of purpose is needed to achieve more progress for the overall good of the land.

The two-time lawmaker of the Delta State House of Assembly expressed profound gratitude to Governor Okowa for being so supportive and standing by him all through the political race.

Some dignitaries including Hon Reuben Izeze, Chief Patrick Fovie and Chief Terry Noah said Hon Mariere has distinguished himself in his service to his people and they will always continue to rally round him.

The Bishop of Ughelli Diocese of the Anglican Communion, The Most Rev. Cyril Odutenmu had in his sermon admonished the congregation to reflect more on those things they will be remembered for.

He urged them to focus on things that will be remembered for.

Reception and Entertainment of guests was later held at the country home of Hon Mariere in Evwreni.
