COVID-19 Palliative: Okowa Crashes Price Of Daily Tickets For Keke, Motorcycle Operators

Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has directed a further reduction of the daily tickets for tricycle (keke) and motorcycle (okada) operators in the state with immediate effect.

The measure is part of the state government’s efforts to assuage the plight of operators and passengers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Following the new directive, all tricycle operators will now pay two hundred naira (N200) and motorcycle riders will pay one hundred naira (N100) for their daily tickets.

The State President of the Tricycle and Motorcycle Operator Association,Chief Obi Nzete who disclosed this today after speaking with the Governor said the reduction in the amount for daily tickets will further  cushion the effects of the COVID-19 on Deltans .

Chief Nzete said before now the Association had reduced the price for daily tickets from three hundred naira (N300) to two hundred and fifty naira (N250) for tricycle operators after the COVID-19 lockdown was partially relaxed by the Governor but with the new directive, keke operators are now to pay two hundred naira while motorcycle riders are to pay one hundred naira daily.

He said the reduction is for the period under review noting that the state government and the Association were deeply concerned about the plight of operators and riders as the number a tricycle can carry had been reduced to only two passengers while motorcycle is one passenger at a time.

Chief Nzete directed all members of the executive, tricycle operators popularly known as keke, and motorcycle riders to take note as the directive is with immediate effect.

He advised all tricycle and motorcycle operators to obey the state  government’s directive on the lockdown particularly the curfew imposed by government .

Chief Nzete commended the Okowa administration on the modalities put in place to combat the spread of coronavirus in the state stressing that the efforts were yielding positive results and urged Deltans to comply as it was for the good for all.

While stressing the need for all strengthen personal hygiene at this period of COVID-19, Chief Nzete said regular washing of hand with soap,use of alcohol based sanitizers, social distancing and wearing of nose mask should be adhered strictly.
