DTHA 2019: Daddy O’s Emergence As ADC Candidate Unsettles Political Pundits In Oshimili North
By Patrick Ochei
Ahead of the 2019 general election, the emergence of the young Ibusa political juggernaut and critic, Mr. Ogechukwu Okonkwo-Osinkor a.k.a Daddy O as a candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC is already unsettling politicians in Oshimili North who do not believe in the ability of the Too Young To Rule.
Oge Okonkwo who runs the Anioma Gardens at Ibusa, is a sagacious youthful politician who has shown enormous passion towards good governance and politics of inclusion.
He has been a critic of bad leadership. And coming out to take a shot at the Delta State House of Assembly seat to represent Oshimili North is already giving political pundits sleepless nights.
As gathered, the old bloc politicians are afraid that the youths of the local government area might change the old order politicians in the area through their active political force.
From the opinion sample carried out in Ibusa and parts of Oshimili North Constituency, it appears that Daddy O Concept represents the angry youths who urgently desire a change from the old order.
A youth from Ibusa told our correspondent that in spite of the evident based leadership decay and lack of development, the PDP which is the ruling party, returned the incumbent representative, Hon. Pat Ajudua through the primary. “Where is the place of the youths in the polity? Where is the politics of inclusion that they had been preaching? Why make the DTHA seat a family estate?”, he asked alarmingly.
At the general election, majority of the voters will be drawn from among the youths and women. And these two critical segments of the electorate are desiring a change from the old order to the new; believing that irrespective of the political party they belong, they will vote their choice in the election.
However obvious that it is, the ADC candidate, Oge Okonkwo-Osinkor appears favourably disposed to shifting the political paradigm in Oshimili North.
Already, his wide consultation across the length and breadth of Oshimili North is in the immediate, disjointing and sending jitters down the spine of pundits who never believed anything can change or that anybody can challenge the status quo.
Perhaps, from analysis as posited by political observers; the youthful Ogechukwu Okonkwo represents a force that will be too much for PDP, APC and other big wig political parties in Oshimili North to handle. This is because of the resolve of the progressive minded youths of the area, women inclusive to usher in a young and new lease of leadership in the area, especially for the House of Assembly seat. And according to them, Oge Okonkwo appears to be the face they need to prosecute this all important agenda.
