Ochor Commends Okowa on Rehabilitation of Agbor-Umutu-Obiaruku-Abraka-Eku Road
The Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has been commended for the initiative to work on the bad portions of Federal Road that connects Agbor-Uwrhonigbe-Umutu-Obiaruku-Abraka-Eku road, which had been in a very bad state for almost two years.
The commendation was given by the Deputy Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ochor Christopher Ochor, on Sunday February 14, 2021 on an inspection your of the road, as it’s a major gateway to Ukwuani Local Government, his constituency.
The Deputy Speaker who also commended the State Commissioner for Works, Mr. James Augoye, in his remark, said the action of the government of Delta State to work on the bad portions is a welcome development, as the road, a major part of the economic development of the state, had for months caused the people serious pain, thereby reducing the economic activities of the affected communities along that route, and haulage of highly needed goods and services to and from the area, his constituency, and the state.
Hon Ochor said that the pains experienced by the people using the road, had been much as it can be visibly been noticed on them, saying anybody that has used that road will notice that the communities, and commuters are always in pain, but with resumption of repairs on the bad portions, the economic activities along that route is expected to rebound, with the intervention of the State Government.
“I commend the State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, and the Commissioner of Works, Mr. James Augoye for the efforts to restore the economic activities along the Agbor-Uwrhonigbe-Umutu-Obiaruku-Abraka-Eku road, with the commencement of the repairs that the governor had directed be done on the bad portions of the road.”
“This road as we all are aware is a major economic and social gateway to the state, as it connects the people living along that route to the state capital, Asaba, to the main commercial centre in the region, Onitsha, and the commercial city of Delta State, Warri. Since some portions of the road went bad, travelling along it had been hell for both the communities along that route and the commuters, both vehicles and man. It had been terrible. I have to thank his Excellency for acting promptly before the coming of the next rainy season.” He said.
Hon Ochor however, called on the contractor handling the repairs to be fast, and ensure the job is delivered based on best industrial standard, and to be completed before the next rainy season, not to disappoint the government and the people of the state.
The Agbor-Umutu-Obiaruku-Abraka-Eku road is a major transit route that connects the South-South, South East to the Northern part of the country, but for more than five major part of the road had been in a very bad state, as commuters who use the road complains, and most commuters had abandoned the road.
