Oborevwori Grants Employment to DELSU’s Best-graduating Student

Delta State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, has granted automatic employment to the overall best-graduating student of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, Ilebe Joshua of the Faculty of Pharmacy, who achieved a CGPA of 4.83.
This announcement was made during the 16th Convocation for the 2022/2023 academic session of the University on April 27, 2024.
In addition to this, Governor Oborevwori challenged the university’s graduates to not only seek paid employment but to adopt an entrepreneurial approach to life. He emphasized that money is a reward for creating value and encouraged the graduates to apply the academic knowledge and life lessons they have acquired during their time at the university.
The Governor also commended the University’s Governing Council and management for the impressive growth recorded by the institution over the years and expressed his administration’s commitment to sustaining timely and predictable delivery of academic programmes in the state’s tertiary institutions.
During the convocation ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Andy Egwunyenga, reported that a total of 4,776 students graduated from the 2022/2023 academic session. This included 730 postgraduate degrees and 3,611 first degrees.
The university was recently ranked 22nd out of 133 Nigerian universities with presence in Scopus and 10th among the best state-owned universities in the country by the 2024SciVal Ranking of Nigerian Universities.
The valedictorian, Ilebe Joshua, expressed gratitude for the Students’ Work and Scholarship Schemes instituted by the university, which have enabled indigent students to sustain their academic pursuits.
He thanked God for their success and appreciated the Vice-Chancellor, management, and staff of the university for their support.
