Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Oborevwori said the housing project was part of his administration’s effort aimed at improving physical infrastructure for better synergy and service delivery to Deltans.

He disclosed that the project was yet another milestone in the life of his administration to offer meaningful development to Deltans, adding that meaningful development was the first pillar of his MORE Agenda for Deltans.

“The construction of eight duplexes in this Commissioners Quarters which is being flagged off today is part of our ongoing efforts to improve physical infrastructure for better synergy and service delivery.

“This Commissioners Quarters was built and commissioned in 2002 by the then Governor, James Ibori. With the addition of specialized ministries over the years, the number of commissioners needed has frequently exceeded the number of houses currently in this estate.

“As a result, some commissioners have been made to reside outside the quarters. Such commissioners often feel left out, and do not enjoy the sense of community that living in the quarters provides.

“Also, there is the issue of security and personal safety, which this community gives to serving commissioners. My desire is that every commissioner should live in the designated official quarters.

“As a responsive and responsible administration, we decided to meet this need by adding eight duplexes to the existing structures on ground.

“Currently, there are 17 duplexes and five bungalows. By the time, this project is completed, the total number of buildings here will rise to 30,” Governor Oborevwori said, adding that the contractor has a completion period of six months.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Godknows Angele said each of the eight duplexes comprises ante room, main lounge, private lounge, kitchen, guest room, laundry and two rooms boy’s quarters on the ground floor.

Hon. Angele further disclosed that the upper floor of each of the duplexes comprises family lounge, master’s and madam’s bedrooms, children room, kitchenette, study and gymnasium, pointing out that the premises would be paved with interlocking stones among other external works.

He, therefore, urged the contractor handling the project to reciprocate the state government’s gesture by showing due diligence and dedication to maintain high-quality standard and timely completion of the works to achieve the overall benefit of the project.
