Governor Oborevwori appoints Ahon Chief Press Secretary
Delta State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori has approved the appointment of Mr. Festus Ighoyeguonor Ahon as the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor.
The approval for his appointment was contained in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Government House Administration, Sir Eddy Ogidi-Gbegbaje on Monday.
Mr Ahon who until his appointment was the state Correspondent of the Vanguard Newspapers is also National Ex- Officio of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ.
According to the statement, the appointment is with immediate effect.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, congratulates the Senior Correspondent of the Vanguard Newspapers and National Ex-Officio of NUJ, Comrade Festus Ahon on his well deserved appointment as the Chief Press Secretary to the Executive Governor of Delta State, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.
In a press release signed by the Comrade Michael Ikeogwu and Comrade Patrick Ochei, State Council Chairman and Secretary respectively, the council stated that, “Comrade Ahon has proven his mettle in the journalism practice as a distinguished professional in all aspects of the profession, including character and ethical conduct.
“We are proud of him as an active and loyal member of the Union in the state for which he was nominated for an appointment as the National Ex-Officio of NUJ in the administration of Comrade Chief Christopher Isiguzo.
“We indeed commend the amiable and media friendly Governor for this extension of a hand of fellowship to the NUJ, just immediately after being sworn-in as the Executive Governor of Delta State.
“Of course, the Governor made a promise to the leadership of the NUJ, to appoint a member of the Union who must satisfy the yearnings and aspirations of all members of the Union. This he has achieved as the vast majority of our members are happy and jubilating on hearing the news of Festus Ahon’s appointment.
“We make bold to say that the NUJ Delta State Council is at home with Comrade Festus Ahon and will work assiduously to ensuring that he succeeds in his new assignment.
“Like Oliver Twist, we plead with our dependable Governor, to also accord us the honour of appointing for us, a media practitioner in the State as the next Commissioner for Information.
“We equally look forward to seeing more of our members appointed into the Government of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, in order to continue to foster the cordial working relationship that already exists between us.
