NYSC to Deploy Corps Members to NDLEA Rehab Centres
The National Youth Service Corps has agreed to deploy its corps members to counselling and rehabilitation centres across the country following a meeting between NYSC Director-General Olakunle Nafiu and National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Chairman Buba Marwa in Abuja.
According to THECABLE, NYSC spokesperson, Caroline Embu, said the meeting discussed how corps members with relevant qualifications could be deployed to the NDLEA’s centres.
Marwa revealed that the agency currently operates centres in 30 states and plans to establish seven more to ensure each of the 36 states and the federal capital territory has at least one centre.
Marwa proposed a memorandum of understanding between the two agencies to define areas of collaboration and congratulated Nafiu on his appointment as DG, wishing him a successful tenure.
He also suggested introducing a drug integrity test for prospective corps members. Nafiu described the suggestion as “commendable” but noted it would require formal policy adoption before implementation since it falls outside the provisions of the NYSC Act.
