47th Anniversary: NYSC, Most Consistent, Unifying Agency – Omotade

By: Patrick Ochei

The South-South Director of NYSC and immediate past Delta State Coordinator, Mr. Benjamin Omotade has said that the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC is the most consistent Federal Agency in the country, adding that the Scheme had achieved milestones in unifying Nigeria as one indivisible entity.

He made this assertion when Delta State NYSC officials and corps members paid him a surprise visit at the NYSC South-South Area office in Asaba, to celebrate the 47th anniversary of the Scheme with him.

The elated Omotade gave glory to God for the establishment of the noble NYSC, adding that we are all partakers of the many blessings of NYSC.

The Director while looking back memory lane, affirmed that NYSC had united Nigeria more than any other organisation through inter-tribal marriages and encouragement of friendship across the country.

He said that Nigerian hospitals would have collapsed in this period of Coronavirus pandemic if not that serving corps members who are doctors and medical personnel were drafted to help the limited health workers in the country to fight the pandemic.

He therefore congratulated this generation of NYSC for being part of history, maintaining that the Scheme had really made an inroad into the fight to contain the Covid-19.

Again, he cheered up the State Coordinator, Mrs. Olutayo Samuel for being patriotic and hard working, stating that he wouldn’t have handed over to a better administrator and disciplinarian.

Omotade posited that he was proud of Mrs. Samuel’s act of patriotism and leadership style which had significantly improved the way and manner the corps members had conducted themselves in line with the NYSC Bylaws and guidelines.

As a mark of respect, the State Coordinator, Mrs. Samuel brought a gift of giant fan to her predecessor, including branded face masks, hand sanitizers and other branded products for the use of the Area office.

“We are also here to put on record the sterling leadership qualities of our amiable DG, Brig. Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim who is doing everything possible to reenact history from its original perspective – the very mindset and intent of the founding fathers of NYSC. Please convey our congratulations to the DG; tell him we are proud of the purposeful leadership he had shown which had launched NYSC to another positive level.

“During the inception of Covid-19, the DG directed us to make our contributions in fighting this pandemic. We initially thought it was a joke, but we were drained to deliver on mandate. At the end of the day, we are really proud that we made our input felt in the fight to curtail the spread of this pandemic. And it’s all thanks to the visionary and focused leadership of our father, General Shuaibu.

“Let me also thank the ever ready, responsive, responsible and disciplined corps members without whom these whole exercises wouldn’t have been possible. You guys made me proud. And I pray that when the history of Covid-19 and the 47th anniversary of NYSC will be written, your names will be written in gold”, Samuel said.
