NSCDC Anambra Command Demonstrates Preparedness Ahead of Nationwide Protests
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State Command, has launched a “show of force” in anticipation of the nationwide protests set to begin on August 1.
Led by State Commandant Maku Olatunde, the exercise took place on Tuesday, July 30, showcasing the command’s readiness and commitment to maintaining a safe and secure environment. The initiative aimed to assert the presence of security forces and reassure the public of their safety.
The show of force began at the NSCDC state command headquarters in Awka and traversed key routes including the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, Ziks Avenue, Regina Caeli Junction, Kwata Junction, New Parts Nkpor, Nkpor Junction, Borromeo Roundabout, Awka Road, DMGS Roundabout, Upper New Market Road, Oguta Road, and concluded at the Head Bridge in Onitsha.
Commandant Olatunde emphasized that the demonstration, which will continue until August 12, underscores the agency’s dedication to protecting critical national assets and infrastructure. The exercise aims to preempt and prevent any acts of vandalism, disturbances, and lawlessness that may arise during the protests.
“This coordinated effort with other security agencies in Anambra State highlights our robust preparedness to take decisive action against anyone attempting to disrupt the peace under the guise of protest,” Olatunde stated.
He also warned youths against being manipulated into causing harm to law-abiding citizens and damaging public infrastructure. He urged the public to cooperate with security agencies and report any suspicious activities that could threaten the peace in Anambra State.
Furthermore, the Commandant cautioned NSCDC officers and personnel deployed for the protests against engaging in unprofessional conduct. He stressed that the command will not tolerate any misconduct or unprofessional behavior.
“In performing your duties, exercise extreme caution and vigilance. Maintain self-control, avoid being trigger-happy, and refrain from confrontations with protesters. Prioritize de-escalation techniques to ensure a peaceful outcome,” Olatunde advised.
