Nigeria Police Officers Face Disciplinary Action Over Cash Receipt from Chinese Nationals
The Nigerian Police Force has launched disciplinary proceedings against officers caught on camera receiving money from a Chinese national.
The incident, captured in a viral video, shows officers lined up and fully armed, accepting naira notes from Chinese nationals in what appears to be a coordinated exercise.
The Force Spokesman, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi condemned the officers action in a statement shared on x.
The statement reads, “The Nigeria Police Force has taken cognisance of a disturbing video making rounds in the media space, showing police officers receiving money from a Chinese national.
“The Force has strongly condemned the conduct exhibited by the police officers in the video, describing it as unprofessional and unethical.”
Adejobi emphasized that the officers’ actions do not represent the established ethics, standards, and core values of the Nigeria Police Force.
“The officers captured in the video have been identified and subjected to disciplinary proceedings,” he stated, assuring the public that justice would be served.
The officers involved were part of a Mobile Police (MOPOL) team led by DSP Aliyu Adejembi, who were on escort duty for a Chinese mining company in Kaduna. Each officer received ₦5,000.
“The Force has zero tolerance for such unprofessional behaviour and other forms of misconduct, which undermine public trust and confidence.”
The Nigeria Police Force has cautioned individuals and organizations utilizing police services to avoid actions that could degrade officers’ integrity and bring the Force into disrepute.
“The Nigeria Police Force hereby cautions individuals and organisations privileged to the services of police personnel, particularly as escorts and guards or other specialised services, to desist from any act capable of degrading the integrity of its officers and bringing the Force to disrepute,” Adejobi warned.
