Neglect By Chevron: Activist Urges American Oil Giant To Address Demands of Ugborodo Community
A Niger Delta human and environmental rights activist, Comrade Sheriff Mulade has called on the management of Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) to as a matter of urgency address the demands of the people of oil rich Ugborodo community in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State.
Speaking with Journalists in Warri, Comrade Mulade said it will interest the management of Chevron, the Federal and Delta State Governments and the general public to note that the demands of Ugborodo community today are equally the request of all Chevron Itsekiris, Ijaws and Illaji host Communities in their operational areas.
Comrade Mulade who is also the Secretary General Egbema, Gbaramatu Communities Development Foundation (EGCDF), pointed out that the American oil giant has deliberately neglected it’s host Communities where they make huge resources to run their establishment, adding that; “And Government at all levels are the greatest beneficiaries of this ugly neglect, aiding the intimidation, oppression and humiliation of these Communities”.
He stressed that “Since the entry of Chevron Nigeria Limited into our communities over four decades ago, they refused to pay acquisition fees to their host Communities of Ijaws, Itsekiris and others”.
The EGCDF Scribe further quipped that “I can authoritatively tell you that all host Communities are preparing to mobilize their people to occupy Chevron swamp operations within the next few days particularly Abiteye, Makaraba, Dibi, Opuekeba, Utonana and Olero if Chevron fails to address the issues of Ugborodo and settle Land acquisition RENTS, ELECTRICITY, PROVISION OF DRINKABLE WATER, EMPLOYMENT AND OPPORTUNITIES
