Ndokwa Nation Demands Ministerial Position in President Buhari’s Second Term
As efforts are being harnessed by various groups and ethnic nationalities in the country to attract development to their communities, through proper and holistic representation, the people of Ndokwa extract in Delta state have appealed to the President, Muhammadu Buhari to appoint one of its own as a minister in his second term in office.
This request was made on behalf of the people by members of the Ndokwa Study Group, a non-governmental organization in a communiqué made available to the press in their meeting held recently in Asaba.
The communique which was signed by the President of the Group, Dr. Norris Ovili and the Secretary, Mr Azubuike Uti stated that no Ndokwa person had ever held the position of a Minister in the Federal Executive Council since the amalgamation of Nigeria in 1914, despite the abundance of eminent personalities of Ndokwa extraction who have distinguished themselves in virtually all fields of human endeavour.
The Group also said that Ndokwa land had contributed greatly to the economic development of the country but sadly has nothing to show in terms of federal infrastructure and therefore appealed to the President to reverse this ugly trend by ensuring that the coastal road network from Oko in Oshimili South Local Government Area to Okpai to Aboh to Onyah to Asaba-Ase to Patani in Patani Local Government Area is constructed without further delay as a way to address the age long neglect and boost the economic activities in the area.
Members of the Group equally expressed their sadness over the way and manner the peaceful disposition of Ndokwa people is being undermined by successive governments and Agip Oil Company having failed to step down electricity from the Okpai Independent Power Plant Project which presently supplies electricity to some States in the Country without any part of Ndokwa Nation benefitting from the project.
While congratulating the President on his re-election, the Group equally congratulated the State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa on his victory at the poll as well as the member representing Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Ossai Nicholas Ossai, the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt.Hon. Friday Osanebi, Hon. Christopher Ochor and Hon. Charles Emetulu for their victories at the last elections.
They called on their elected representatives to attract meaningful developmental projects in all parts of Ndokwa land that would stand the test of time.
