NBA Legend, Dikembe Mutombo Dies at 58
National Basketball Association (NBA) Hall of Famer, Dikembe Mutombo has passed away at the age of 58 from brain cancer.
The announcement of Mutombo demise was made known by NBA on September 30, 2024.
During his 18-year career, he established himself as one of the most formidable defenders in the league, earning eight All-Star selections and setting records that continue to impact NBA history.
A four-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, Mutombo was renowned for his shot-blocking and iconic finger-wag after rejecting opponents.
Mutombo devoted much of his life to enhancing healthcare and education in his home country Congo by constructing hospitals and schools.
His humanitarian initiatives earned him the title of the NBA’s first Global Ambassador, significantly impacting communities well beyond the realm of basketball.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver offered his heartfelt condolences to Dikembe’s wife and children in a statement.
