Sports University: NANS, NADESSTU Back Establishment of Stars University, Idumuje-Ugboko warn Detractors to Steer Clear

Stakeholders of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Zone B and the National Association of Delta State Students (NADESSTU) have thrown their weight behind the establishment of STARS University, a Sports Development Institution at Idumuje-Ugboko.

The Student Leaders declared their support for the kick-off of the University during a Press Conference on Tuesday, July 25, 2017  in Asaba, the Delta State Capital warning that any force which may stand against the reality of the Sports institution will be vanquished by the full force of all Nigerian Students.

In their unanimous endorsement of STARS University, Coordinator, NANS Zone B, Comrade Obi Pedro said, “we are here to inform Deltans, Nigerians and the whole world of our solidarity and support towards the proposed establishment of the STARS University, Idumuje-Ugboko, Delta State. We are supporting this initiative as it is born out of our love and passion for institutional development, growth and progressive transformation of our society.”

“We the Nigerian Students believe that the establishment of Sports University will provide administrative skills for Nigerians in the area of sports development and administration to master the art of sport professionally. We also believe that the initiative of establishing STARS University in Delta State, will promote quality functional education and bring about development that will place Delta State in the center map of the World through our cultural heritage and in terms of sports development and tourism,” Comrade Pedro added.

While thanking the National Universities Commission (NUC) for approving and considering the University worthy of establishment, the Student Leaders heaped praise and encomiums on Hon. Prince Ned Nwoko, founder of STARS University for his well thought out initiative and passion for Sports and educational development and advancement in Nigeria and in Africa.

“We the Nigerian Students wish to thank Hon. Prince Ned Nwoko who has distinguished himself excellently in establishing the first Sports University in Africa. The establishment of STARS university will develop Sports in the country, create jobs and provide employment opportunities for the teeming population of youths of Delta State and Beyond.”

On the bickering situation currently hindering the smooth take-off of the University, the Student activists stated that one man cannot stop the progress that is meant for everybody because this University when established is not going to be for only Idumuje-ugboko or for Delta North or Delta State or for Southern Nigeria, it is going to be for the whole Nigeria and Africa. “Whatever concerns the development of the country, we will forever and we will continue with every power within us to make sure that it becomes a success. For those trying to be an obstacle to the development of this project, we would mobilise the over Forty-One Million (41,000,000) Nigerian Students to make sure that we get this project actualized. So nobody out of his own personal interest can stand on the way of this project because thousands of Nigerian Students who leave school on yearly basis and as such a project that will get them gainfully employed, we not allow anybody to truncate the establishment of this University.”

In his contribution, the President General, Southern Nigeria Youth Congress, Comrade Ugugaoghene Ogheneyole noted that the Press Conference is one of the first step taken by the Student body and have initiated consultative fora to reach out to different stakeholders like the Idumuje-Ugboko Community, the Governor of Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, the Asagba of Asaba who is a member of the NUC committee and the NUC body. He added that the youth community, the comrade community and the entire Nigerian students will not keep quiet until the forces of darkness hindering the take of the university are vanquished.

STARS University which stands for Sports Technology, Art and science University when fully established, will be the first Sports University in West Africa and Africa which will have additional faculties of Science Technology, Management and Arts with core values to provide administrative skills in Sports learning and development.
