Michelle Obama has debunked rumours of impending divorce speculation about her marriage to former President Barack Obama.
In a conversation with Sophia Bush on her podcast “Work in Progress,” Michelle explained that her recent absences from high-profile events, including President Jimmy Carter’s funeral and President Donald Trump’s inauguration, were simply personal choices.
“I won’t think twice before making decisions for myself,” Michelle emphasized. “That’s what society does to us. We start asking, ‘What am I doing? Who am I doing this for?’ And if it doesn’t fit into the stereotype of what people think we should do, then it gets labelled as something negative and horrible.”
Michelle’s absence from these events sparked intense speculation, with some interpreting it as a sign of marital issues.
However, Barack Obama’s recent birthday message to his wife, where he described her as “the love of my life,” suggests otherwise. In his message, he wrote, “You fill every room with warmth, wisdom, humor, and grace – and you look good doing it. I’m so lucky to be able to take on life’s adventures with you. Love you!”
Now 61, Michelle is reflecting on her life and priorities. “Now is the time for me to start asking myself these hard questions of who do I truly want to be every day,” she said. Her focus remains on her passions, including girls’ education and her work on President Obama’s presidential library, set to open in Chicago next year.
“When I say no, for the most part, people are like, I get it, and I’m OK, right?” Michelle added, highlighting her growing comfort with asserting her own desires and boundaries.
