Maternal Mortality: Marie Stopes International Donates Cartons of Misoclear to Delta Govt
As part of efforts geared towards the reduction of Maternal and Child Mortality and Morbidity, Marie Stopes International organization of Nigeria (MSION) has donated 5 cartons of Misoclear (Marie Stopes’ brand of Misoprostol) to the Delta state government through the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (DSPHCDA) Asaba
Receiving the items on behind of the state government, the Executive Director of the agency Dr. Winful-Orieke Jude acknowledged the immerse contribution of Marie Stopes International Organization Nigeria towards the reduction of maternal death in the state.
The Executive Director who revealed that MSION has been providing DSPHCDA with Family Planning commodities and training, said donation of Misoclear will further help address postpartum Hemorrhage which accounts for about thirty five percent (35%) of maternal mortality as the drug is highly effective in preventing postpartum Hemorrhage.
Dr. Winful-Orieke added that the donation will complement the state government’s efforts towards achieving Sustainable Development Goals 3.
According to him, Governor Okowa’s administration had shown great commitment to curbing maternal death with various health interventions especially free antenatal and delivery for women.
Representative of the country director, South South Regional Manager, Mary Ocholi stated that Marie Stopes Nigeria has been supporting the state with provision of reproductive health services with emphasis family planning and post abortion care services.
She said in keeping with the core values of MSION, besides distribution of family planning commodities and supply of consumables to health facilities the organisation provides the public with information on modern contraceptive methods which enables informed choices about birth spacing and family size.
Ocholi commended the state government for her continued commitments to improving women’s health in the state.
