Malaria Elimination: Deltans Embrace Long Lasting Insecticidal Nets As Distribution Deepens


One of the missions of the Global Fund campaign, is malaria elimination and in Nigeria, this is currently in top gear as the distribution of over 3.5 million Long Lasting Insecticidal Nets, LLINS to residents of Delta State have fully commenced.

The distribution cum replacement campaign of these nets according to survey, has witnessed a positive response from Deltans who are trooping out in their thousands to designated points to pick up their nets.

The state wide distribution which was flagged-off by the State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa in Asaba, the State capital on Friday, June 9, 2019, had seen deeper distributions across the 25 local government areas of the State.

A visit to some Distribution Points (DP) across Oshimili South local government area on Saturday, June 8, 2019, showed an impressive level of response from residents who were seen leaving the various collection points with Blue, White and Green coloured Insecticidal Mosquito Nets.

At Umuagu Primary Health Centre, the DP supervisor, Mrs Gloria Anene disclosed that a total of 3,850 nets are expected to be distributed to beneficiaries at the centre.

At Temple Clinic DP, the supervisor, Mrs Blessing Nwabuzor told newsmen that over 1000 nets are set to be distributed to beneficiaries in the area of which over 700 nets have been collected.

Further visit to one of the locations at the Central Core Area, revealed that out of 1,500 Nets allocated to Perfecta DP, over 620 Nets had been collected.

The Health Educators at the various Distribution Points were seen enlightening the beneficiaries on the safe use of the Nets.

Speaking to journalists, the Oshimili South local Government Coordinator of the Society for Family Health, SFH in charge of Net distribution, Mrs Grace Adekanle disclosed that a total of 209,054 Nets were supplied for distribution across the local council which tallies with the total number of Scanned Net Cards received.

The distribution of the Nets which is tied to the possession of a Net Card by the beneficiary, commenced on June 8 and billed to elapse on Friday, June 14, 2019.
