Lookman Ruled Out of Atalanta’s Champions League Clash Against Barcelona
Atalanta has confirmed that Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman will miss their crucial Champions League match against Barcelona on Wednesday due to a knee injury.
The 27-year-old suffered a lateral joint injury in his right knee during training, and the Serie A club announced that he will not travel to Spain for the match.
In a statement, Atalanta said: “Ademola Lookman has hurt the lateral joint in his right knee and will not travel to Spain.”
Although the club did not provide a specific timeline for Lookman’s recovery, Italian media reports suggest that he could be sidelined for up to a month.
Lookman’s absence will be a significant blow to Atalanta, as he has been in impressive form this season, scoring 14 goals and providing six assists. He also scored a hat-trick in last season’s Europa League final victory over Bayer Leverkusen.
Atalanta is currently seventh in the Champions League league phase and needs a win against already-qualified Barcelona to avoid a play-off spot.
