Liberian Ambassador Advocates Peaceful Coexistence For Rapid Development In Africa
The Liberian Ambassador to Nigeria, Prof Al-Hassan Conteh has called for peaceful co-existence in Africa in order to bring the desired rapid development.
The ambassador Prof Al-Hassan Conteh who made the call at the just concluded conference, Organized by a non governmental organization, the Center for Peace and Environmental Justice – (CEPEJ) implored African leaders to do everything to key into the culture of adopting international best practices for nation’s development.
The 9th CEPEJ annual conference was held at Hon. Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi International Conference Center, Minna Niger State with the theme; “Good Governance Panacea for Sustainable Development in Africa”.
Coordinator of the center, Comrade Sheriff Mulade in a welcome address said that; “The primary aim of this conference was meant to sensitise Africans specifically Nigerians on the importance of promoting peaceful coexistence in every aspects of engagement. The choice of Minna for this year’s conference as host was informed by the peaceful atmosphere prevalent in the state. CEPEJ seeks to complement this effort by hosting this conference here in Minna as a show of solidarity with the State”.
The Director General, National Orientation Agency (NOA), Dr. Garba Abari commended CEPEJ for complementing the role of government.
He noted that the conference came at the right time adding that Nigerians were becoming more concern with sustaining peace during elections. He also reaffirmed the need for continuous orientation towards national development.
The conferences was well attended by foreign dignitaries, top ranking military personalities from the Nigerian Defence Headquarters, Traditional rulers from Northern and southern part of Nigeria, students from different institutions across Nigeria, captain of industries, high profile government officials and agencies.
The Liberian President, George Weah who was represented by the Liberian Ambassador to Nigeria, Prof. Hassan Conteh commended CEPEJ, saying that; “Democratic governance must be implemented by developing a conceptual framework that encourage a participatory framework for its citizens”.
The conference also served as a means of advocating for peace and development by members of the Nigerian traditional council, with a call on President Muhammadu Buhari to create programmes that will engage and educate youths.
The traditional ruler from Bayelsa, HRM. Alfred Diete Spiff called on the federal government to engage the youths productively.
The monarch also appealed to the Federal Government to compel Multinational operating in the Niger Delta to adhere strictly to environmental best practice to save our environment.
Governor of Niger State, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello in his welcome address, lauded CEPEJ for hosting the Conference in Niger State.
An Award of Excellence was presented to the president of Liberia for his Pro-poor agenda and other prominent Nigerians.
