Legislative Rumble: Oseme Reacts to Nwaonye’s Statement on Alleged Clerk Assault
Following the reported fracas which took place on Thursday, February 9, 2018 at the Aniocha North Council Legislative House, Chairman of the local Council, Hon Chuks Oseme has labelled the response of the Leader of the Legislative Arm, Hon Ekene Nwaonye on the event as false, malicious and a calculated attempt to tarnish his good image and integrity.
Hon Oseme who spoke through his Media Assistance, Comrade Matthew Anazia said, the series of publications trending online with the caption, “Leader of Aniocha North Legislative Arm Responds to Allegation Assault“ is savoured with biased reportage and urged the people of Aniocha North to eschew falsehood and sensational reporting against the chairman.
Below is an extraction of the Chairman’s Statement as signed by Comrade Matthew Anazia.
“The attention of the Media Assistance to the executive Chairman of Aniocha North LGA has been drawn to online publications of with the caption, “Leader of Aniocha North Legislative Arm Responds to Allegation Assault”, and wishes to state unequivocally that the said report is false, malicious and a calculated attempt to tarnish the good image, integrity and impeccable character of Hon. Chuks Oseme.
Condemning the Leader’s response, Anazia stated that, Hon. Chuks Oseme never granted press interview or sponsored a story against the leader of the legislative arm, Hon Ekene Nwaonye, as it was alleged that he beat up the Clerk of the Legislative Arm of the Council.
Comrade Anazia said that the Chairman was not yet at the Council’s office when the incident happened and for one to say that he was the one that spoke to the press was an attempt to destroy the Council.
The Media Assistance admonished the people of Aniocha North to eschew falsehood and sensational reporting against the chairman, adding that, the said jaundiced and biased reportage had no place in journalism.
Anazia added that mischievous reports were not only inimical to the growth and development of the Local government Area in Particular and Delta in general but also an embarrassment to the journalism profession. He further expressed displeasure at the malicious and unsubstantiated stories against Chairman, saying, “When the Chairman came to the Council after the incident, he was briefed on what happened and quickly put a call across to the Leader of the House to ascertain what transpired with the Clerk. Unfortunately, the Nwaonye refused to pick his calls.”
On the alleged seizure of the Council’s Buses, Anazia said that the Chairman cannot join issues with the House Leader, but for the avoidance of doubt, the Legislative bus has been released to them after their inauguration, while for the other two buses, one was allocated to NULGE and the other for the Staff.
The spokesman reiterated Oseme’s commitment to bring good governance and delivering of democratic dividends to the people of Aniocha North. Anazia called on all and sundry to join hands with the council chairman and bring their wealth of experience to move the council forward, stressing that only Unity can do the area good than division which hinders development.”
