Lawyer Demands N100m Compensation for Wrongly Accused Teenager

A human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, has demanded ₦100 million in compensation for Alabi Quadri, a 17-year-old minor who was wrongly accused of armed robbery and spent months in Kirikiri prison.

Quadri gained popularity before the 2023 general elections for standing in front of former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi’s convoy.

Briefing journalists after the ruling in Apapa area of Lagos on Thursday, Effiong commended the DPP for standing by the truth in this matter.

After the Director of Public Prosecutions advised on the case, Magistrate Adetola Olorunfemi freed Quadri. Effiong commended the DPP for upholding the truth and demanded the removal of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Amukoko Divisional Headquarters and a public apology to Quadri from the police authorities.

He added that if requested is not granted a legal action will be taken.

Effiong further described Quadri’s case as evidence of corruption and injustice within the Nigeria Police Force, stating, “There are many Quadris languishing in detention centres across Nigeria because of the unbridled criminality, lawlessness, and lack of accountability in the Police institution and the weakness of the justice system. History will vindicate the just.”
