Kano Airport Runway Shut Down After Max Air Plane Tyre Burst
The Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) runway has been closed temporarily after a Max Air plane suffered a tyre burst while landing on Tuesday night.
The airline announced this on their official X account on Wednesday morning.
“As a result, the Kano runway will remain temporarily closed for inspection and clearance, which may lead to delays in flight operations today, Wednesday, 29/01/2024.
“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused and appreciate your patience as we await further updates on the runway reopening,” the airline added.
According to reports, Flight VM1605, which departed from Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA) in Lagos, experienced the tyre burst at 10:57 pm, causing panic among the 53 passengers on board. Fortunately, all passengers and crew members were safely evacuated without injuries.
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has confirmed the incident and stated that the aircraft has been removed from the runway to Taxiway B.
The authority also directed a thorough runway inspection to ensure safety before reopening the runway.
