Justice Egwatu Adjourns Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Suit Against Senate to March 25

Justice Obiora Egwatu of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has adjourned the suit filed by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, member representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, to March 25, 2025.

At the hearing, Michael Numa, SAN, counsel for Natasha, informed the court that all parties had been served with the necessary documents, and the affidavits of service were before the court. After verifying the affidavits, Justice Egwatu confirmed that all defendants had been served.

Kehinde Ogunwumiju, counsel for Senate President Godswill Akpabio, requested an adjournment to harmonize all processes. Other counsels supported this move, emphasizing that it would facilitate a faster hearing at the next adjourned date.

In his ruling, Justice Egwatu adjourned the matter to March 25, 2025, and ordered that all relevant processes be served on parties before the adjourned date.

Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Peter Nwaebonyi, who was present in court, stressed the importance of legal services. “It’s only when parties are properly served that they can study the matter and respond accordingly,” he said.

Nwaebonyi also pointed out that it was unusual for the court to interfere in the affairs of the Senate, as the upper chamber only answered the call of the court for being a responsible and law-abiding institution.
