Japanese Alcohol Ambassador Fired over Drunkenness
A popular Japanese actor Ryo Yoshizawa has been fired as the face of a low-alcohol beer brand after a drunken escapade.
Ryo Yoshizawa, 30, was hired to promote Asahi Breweries’ 3.5-percent Super Dry Dry Crystal beer. However, his contract was terminated after he allegedly broke into his neighbor’s home while intoxicated on December 30.
According to Yoshizawa’s talent agency, the actor “accidently made his way into an apartment room next to his” and later told police, “I’ve lost my memories. I think I just went in without asking, because I wanted to use the bathroom.”
Asahi Group Holdings spokesperson Shiori Shimizu announced the company’s decision to drop Yoshizawa, stating, “As an alcohol beverage company, we consider his actions unacceptable.”
“We will no longer use him in our future advertisements,” Shimizu added.
Yoshizawa has apologized to his neighbor for the “major trouble he caused” and has since vacated the apartment.
