Hon Evance Ivwurie Seeks for the Establishment of a Cemetery in Asaba


Honourable Member representing Ethiope East State Constituency, Hon. (Chief) Evance Ochuko Ivwurie at today’s plenary, presented a motion for the establishment of a Cemetery in Asaba, the Delta State Capital.

He prayed the Honourable House to call on the Executive Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Senator Dr. Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa to as a matter of urgent public importance, direct the Director General and management of the Asaba Capital Development Agency to, without delay, establish a cemetery in Asaba, the capital of Delta State where both residents and indigenes of Asaba can inter the corpse of their loved ones respectfully when they pass away.

Hon. Ivwurie posited that Asaba is an evolving city with upsurge of human population and urbanization. That an organized cemetery will promote clean and healthy environment that will enhance community standard. He also noted that Cemetery provides emotional, historic bonds and family values and are also revenue generating and job creation investment.

“A cemetery in Asaba will enhance the environmental status of Asaba and contribute to the cleanliness of our Asaba community and healthiness of Asaba environment.”

The motion enjoyed a huge support from the House. Amongst the leading supporters of the motion were the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Barr. Tim Owhefere, Hon. Tonye Timi PhD, Hon. Barr. Samuel Mariere, Hon. Barr. Daniel Mayuku and Rt. Hon. Peter Onwusanya.

Governor Okowa who was at the House to Present the 2017 Budget Proposal, promised to urge the authorities of Oshimili North and South Local Government Areas to synergize and provide land for the establishment of the cemetery.
