“Children of Blood and Bone” is a “Black Lives Matter-inspired fantasy novel” that tells the story of an oppressive world where magic has been suppressed. The novel is set in the mythical kingdom of Orïsha and follows the journey of Zélie and her brother Tzain as they attempt to restore magic to their world.
The film is directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, who brings Tomi Adeyemi’s epic tale to life.
Adeyemi’s novel was inspired by her Nigerian heritage and Yoruba culture. The 30-year-old author has been hailed as the next J.K. Rowling, and her novel has been praised for its richly imagined world and compelling characters.
