Governor Okowa Abhors White Elephant Projects – Elekeokwuri
The Member representing Ika North East in the State House of Assembly, Hon Anthony Emeke Elekeokwuri says the Okowa administration abhors white elephant projects and will not abandon any project initiated as it was determined to leave lasting legacies.
Hon Elekeokwuri stated this when he received executive members of the Ika Village Square, IVS, a social cultural group who paid him a courtesy visit at the Delta State Assembly Complex, Asaba.
He said Governor Ifeanyi Okowa who is known for his penchant for good governance anchored on transparency and accountability will not abandon any project in the life span of his administration.
The lawmaker who is the Chairman, House Committee on Public Accounts noted that the era of embarking on white elephant projects in the state was over, stressing that the governor was focused on the completion of all ongoing projects.
Hon Elekeokwuri said the legislature was working closely with the executive through enabling laws such as the Audit and the Public Finance bills among others which he sponsored to enhance good governance and accountability in the administration of the state.
The lawmaker noted that he had attracted several development projects to various communities in the constituency and commended the people for reelecting him for a second time.
While commending the leadership and members of the Ika Village Square for its initiative to enhance peace and development in Ika land, Hon Elekeokwuri promised to contribute his quota to the group to enable it achieve it’s lofty dreams.
Hon Elekeokwuri expressed hope that Ika nation being an oil producing area will be enlisted in DESOPADEC assuring that he will not fail in his legislative duties.
Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on the Legislature and former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Martins Okonta commended the group made up of young progressive minds of Ika extraction for the objective of the Ika Village Square.
Hon Okonta urged the group to promote the Ika culture and strive for development, adding that all communities in Ika land should be carried along.
He commended Hon Anthony Elekeokwuri for his purposeful representation of the people of Ika North East as he had sponsored some bills and cosponsored others which had enhanced development of Ika land.
Earlier, the Chairman of Ika Village Square, Chief Jude Ugbekile said the group is a pressure group with the main objective of promoting peace and development and commended Deltans for reelection of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for a second term.
He said the group was working closely with other ethnic nationalities in the state and had visited some to solicit support for the Okowa administration.
Others who spoke highlighted that the group was working on the Ika Village Square Trust Fund to enable it actualise its dream of supporting education, empowerment and value reorientation of the Ika people.
They stressed the need for foreign and local investors in Ika land to create jobs and reduce the burden of dependence on government officials to meet their needs.
